Machine Embroidery -oh help !!!

A small voice has been echoing in the back of my mind for a while, “now you are into handembroidery……why not try machineembroidery???”
The voice has been there for a while, well, my Singer Chic sewingmachine was on the table , so time for some trial and error…… At first I removed the foot, and was working with a straight stitch, long spaces…..no succes, the thread kept breaking….., the another try with the leg to the foot removed….total disaster, hmmm, I vaguely remeber a tranparent foot for my machine…….hey, there it is……another trial run , yes, yes, firm stitches, nicely spaced, working at a resonably speed, and still my main problem remains…….

THE THREAD KEEPS BREAKING; GETTING ALL WOOLY AND TORN, (and the upper tension on the machine is a bit strong……)

PLEASE HELP.

And I will post my question to ASK THE CRAFTER, there is almost always a good advice. And I will remember and try the answers from ASK THE CRAFTER !! Thanks for the advice.

  1. I can’t help but I can send good vibes and lots of luck!!!

  2. Use a top stitch needle. Fast with the foot pedal, slow with the hands. If your machine has a darning foot, that might help too.

  4. Two possible solutions:
You need a specific needle – one with a big hole and no edges in that hole. Go to your sewing store and talk to a knowledgeable person there (good luck on that).

There is another technique where you hand wind the heavy thread onto your bobbin. Loosen the tension on your bobbin (you would be wise to purchase a bobbin specifically for this, rather than to mess around with the tension on your regular bobbin), put a thin thread on the top in your machine. Then turn your project over and stitch from underneath. It works really well and is really easy.

  5. You will get on better with the hoop up the other way, so that the fabric is on the machine bed and not bouncing about. try a jeans needle.
